He thereafter joined a Japanese Multi National Company as a Director Indian Operations, which manufactures Amphibious Aircraft and Aerobridges among many other products.

A highly experienced and Decorated GENERAL of the INDIAN ARMY, Ministry of Defence, Government of India with over 40 years of exhaustive military experience that spanned several critical command and operational appointments both domestic and international.
He has been the General Officer Commanding of a strategic strike Division deployed on the line of control along the western borders of India, Chief of Operations & logistics of a Command engaged in counter terrorism operations, Chief of operations (BGS) of a Strike Corps, and Head of Faculty of Defense Management Institution.
As part of the Apex committee on force transformation and modernization he was part of the committee responsible for several equipment profiling of mechanised forces and Infantry, to include upgrdation of tank fleet, future Infantry Combat Vehicles, surveillance and ISTAR capability to include Drones.
His command of the frontline strategic battle group included sizable infantry units and armoured fleet.
He also has the unique distinction of managing the world’s largest and most complex logistic operation of stocking approx 1,80,000 Metric Tonnes of equipment and supplies for troops deployed in high altitude in J&K (India).
An expert in International/Regional security issues, his unit took part in United Nations (UN) Peace keeping / Peace enforcing missions in Sierra Leone West Africa while he has the distinction of being a military advisor to the Botswana Defence Force (Southern Africa).
He was also part of IPKF operations in SriLanka. Given his penchant for matters military he is a prolific writer on strategic security issues and has been an international speaker and panelist at several conferences in India and abroad.
As Head of Faculty of the prestigious, College of Defence Management he has held several teaching assignments in defense management as a management faculty, participated in several exchange programmes with ISB, IIM-A and Cranfield university(UK) and briefly served as the Pro Vice Chancellor of National University of Medical Science, Jaipur.
He has been honoured with the Chief of Army Staff Commendation, Army Commanders Commendation and CISC Commendation. Post retirement, he is actively engaged as a strategic advisor to multiple organizations.
The spectrum of Consultancy Services include Conceptual framework specializing in Defense Manufacture assisting startups & MSMEs. General Shankar holds a Master of Management Studies from Osmania University Hyderabad and a BSc from JNU, New Delhi.
His academic pursuit include a course in Governance and Management of Defense from Cranfield University (UK), Foundation course of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) from Lal Bahadur Shastry Academy of Administrative service Dehradun and has the distinction of being a Gold Medalist from Defense Institute of Advance Studies Deemed University Pune specializing in Tank Technology.
